Sara Continenza

Meet Sara Continenza, a dedicated and passionate member of the Cleveland 13 News Advisory Board, actively contributing to the community's well-being through her impactful work in promoting social justice and reducing health disparities across Northeast Ohio.

In 2018, Sara founded Food Strong, a nonprofit 501c3 organization committed to supporting health equity, food access, environmental stewardship, community beautification, and economic development. Under her visionary leadership, Food Strong has become a beacon of positive change, employing various programs to educate and empower communities through fresh, local foods.

Sara's mission is rooted in utilizing nutritious, locally-sourced foods as a common ingredient to create vibrant atmospheres, educate and empower communities, support economic growth, and inspire the consumption and cultivation of healthy local food, particularly among low-income youth in the region.

Her programs include School Gardens and Culinary Arts Programming, Youth Entrepreneurship initiatives, the Food Strong Learning Garden, Care-A-Van community wellness programs, Care Strong Project, Farmers' Markets, and the Vacant Lot Restoration Initiative. Through Fresh Food Connect, an anti-food waste app, Food Strong ensures the redistribution and allocation of excess locally grown food, further supporting their various initiatives.

Sara's dedication extends beyond her professional endeavors. In 2017, she was elected as Ward 3 Councilwoman in the City of South Euclid, Ohio, where she continues to channel her passion for community development and positive change.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including personal injuries and organizational setbacks in 2020, Sara exhibited exceptional resilience. Through her innovative thinking and commitment to her community, she navigated difficulties and emerged stronger. Sara's story exemplifies her unwavering dedication to social justice, community well-being, and her capacity to lead with compassion and resilience.
