GUTENTAG

Rose R. Gutentag (nee Feren), beloved wife of 60 years to the late Jerome Gutentag, passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 106 years and 62 days. Cherished and devoted mother of Marsha (Sanford) Mintz and the late Alan Goodwin; loving grandmother of Ginger (William Foster) Gordan, Jeffrey Cohen, Jack (Nancy) Greminger and Nancy Greminger Henkin. She was the adoring great-grandmother of Blaze and Buzz Foster, Matthew, Justin, Jeanne, and Chelsi Greminger, and Jacob and Zachary Henkin, and the dear great-great-grandmother of Miley, Madeline, and Morgan.

Born in 1918 in New York, Rose was the solid and strong heartbeat of her family, a true legend whose life spanned more than a century of profound change and history. The youngest sister of Ann, Betty, Irene, Myer, Ben, Ethel, Harold, and Maurice, Rose also took on the loving role of a second mother to her nephews, maintaining a lifelong bond with them.

Rose was known for her striking Brooklyn accent, infectious laughter, and boundless energy. A gracious hostess and devoted partner; she was adventurous, spontaneous, and funny, bringing joy wherever she went. At the age of 96, she made headlines for sharing a bed with a young male model in a Doritos commercial—her wit and charm stealing the show as always.

Rose loved food (both cooking and eating) and was often heard describing her black coffee as something that "would put hair on your chest." She was a natural performer, always singing and dancing, and encouraging others to join in. Her 60-year marriage to Jerome was a testament to enduring love, and after his passing, Rose continued to share her joy and spirit with the world for another 21 years.

She witnessed history unfold in ways most of us can only imagine, living through two global pandemics, the advent of television, and the dawn of the internet. Rose embodied resilience, humor, and love, embracing every day as an opportunity to win at life. She lived to see generations of her family grow and thrive, forming a special bond with her great-great-granddaughter Morgan, who loved her dearly.

Rose was a living legend, a witness to over a century of history, and a maker of history in her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will forever bring smiles to those fortunate enough to have known her.

Services were held Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Cemetery, in Solon, Ohio.

Contributions in Rose’s memory are suggested to The American Cancer Society, Hadassah, Council of Jewish Women, Bikur Cholim of Cleveland, or the JWV.

Rose was my great aunt - my Grandma Betty's youngest sister. Unfortunately, I didn't know her well, but she was clearly an amazing person who loved life. With my deepest condolences to all my cousins, Marcy
