Akron Police Seize Guns and Drugs in Joint Raid With Sheriff's Office
AKRON, OH — Akron police, in collaboration with the Summit County Sheriff's Office, seized firearms, drugs, and equipment for illegal gun modification during a series of raids on Monday, October 21. The operation, part of an ongoing investigation by the Akron Anti-Violence Bureau, led to search warrants executed at two locations: a residence on Corice Street in Akron and another in Coventry Township.
Just after 1 p.m., officers, supported by the Akron SWAT team, converged on the Corice Street property. During the search, they confiscated five firearms, various gun parts, including upper and lower receivers for rifles, and an undisclosed amount of drugs and cash. Investigators also discovered a 3D printer capable of manufacturing Glock switches—a device that can convert semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic weapons.
The Akron Police Department emphasized the seriousness of Glock switches, stating, "Glock switches, without question, create a significant threat to public safety." The department also highlighted the importance of ongoing efforts to address illegal weapons, noting, "While public safety has many challenges, our officers and other community partners remain committed to the work."
The investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man who was taken into custody at the Coventry Township residence without incident. His identity has not been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police officials underscored the cooperative nature of the operation, calling the seizure a "collective step forward in reducing the number of illegal weapons on our streets." They commended the collaboration between all involved agencies in helping to ensure Akron is a safer community.
