Barberton Takes Proactive Steps to Address Homelessness
BARBERTON, OHIO - In a move aimed at addressing the complex issue of homelessness, Mayor William B. Judge and his Administration have officially launched the Homelessness Task Force in Barberton. This task force, a collaborative effort involving several key organizations, is set to make a significant impact on the lives of the homeless within the community by providing essential support in the form of food, shelter, clothing, and access to mental health and addiction services.
The newly formed Homelessness Task Force boasts a diverse roster of outreach-based organizations, with the collective goal of offering a multifaceted approach to assist those experiencing homelessness. Among the task force members are the Summit County ADM Board, Summit County Continuum of Care, Community Support Services, Axess Pointe, Coleman Professional Services, as well as local non-profits like Main Street Barberton, Salvation Army, and Common Threads Closet. Notably, city safety forces and the Barberton Municipal Courts are also actively involved in this collaborative initiative.
The primary mission of this task force is to foster open lines of communication and collaboration between these organizations and government agencies working directly with Barberton's homeless population. Additionally, the task force aims to make vital resources and wrap-around services more accessible to those in need.
Mayor Judge, expressing the importance of this task force, emphasized that homelessness is a multifaceted issue, and addressing it requires a holistic approach. He stated, “The Homelessness Task Force will be a critical component in continuing to address the homeless in Barberton. Homelessness is a complex issue with multiple facets to address. The entities involved with our task force are involved with the homelessness issue from different perspectives. Collaborating with entities that provide outreach-based services to this population as well as working with our courts and safety forces will ensure that resources and wrap-around services are available for those in need.”
This collaborative effort represents a significant step forward in addressing the issue of homelessness in Barberton. By bringing together a variety of organizations and entities, the Homelessness Task Force is working towards a more inclusive and supportive community, where those experiencing homelessness can access the help and resources they need. As the task force begins its work, it is poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
