LAKEWOOD - Nikkie Brown of Cleveland 13 recently 'Hit The Town' at STEM Handmade Soap in Lakewood. While there, Nikkie tried one of STEM's sugar scrubs and chatted with Kaci, an expert at the store. Located at 12405 Madison Ave in the Birdtown neighborhood, STEM Handmade Soap crafts all-natural bath and body products right on-site.
STEM Handmade Soap is dedicated to creating high-quality, natural products that benefit the skin. "We make everything from scratch in our Lakewood studio," Kaci said. "We’re committed to being good stewards of our planet and are on a zero-waste journey, offering sustainable solutions for all your personal care needs."
Operating under the principles of Care of Self, Care of Community, and Care of Planet, STEM offers a wide range of products, including bar soap, foaming hand soap, lotion, butters, bath bombs, shower steamers, face care, lip balms, and various gift sets in over 20 essential oil scents.
Their target audience is anyone looking for natural self-care products that are good for the skin and the environment. STEM has managed to keep prices steady for nearly 11 years by building strong relationships with vendors and suppliers, ensuring affordability without compromising on quality.
Celebrating over a decade in business, STEM Handmade Soap has been voted Best Soap in Cleveland. They now have a second location in the Van Aken District in Shaker Heights. Despite challenges, such as maintaining affordable prices, STEM continues to thrive by carefully managing costs.
STEM is very active in the local community, supporting various non-profits through their "Community Bars" program, where proceeds from select soap bars go to local organizations. They also sponsor community events and regularly donate to local causes. The owners are leaders in the handcrafted cosmetic industry, mentoring other small businesses and speaking at industry events.
The increasing trend towards sustainability and eco-friendliness has been a boon for STEM. "We review all our products through our 'care of planet' lens annually to ensure we’re taking steps to preserve our planet," Kaci noted. The company also leverages technology for inventory control, purchasing, and business analysis.
Looking to the future, STEM plans to launch a refill program this fall, allowing customers to refill their favorite personal and home care products, further emphasizing their commitment to sustainability.
