Cleveland’s Tower City Showcases Women Entrepreneurs for American Women’s Business Day

CLEVELAND, OH — As American Women’s Business Day approaches on September 22, Tower City, located in downtown Cleveland, shines a spotlight on the entrepreneurial achievements of women, just as a woman is a frontrunner for the U.S. presidency. Tower City, a key part of the city’s ongoing revitalization, has become a hub for women-owned businesses, which are transforming the local economy.

One standout is DarlaFoxx, a boutique offering gowns for special events. Known for its attention to detail and inclusive sizing, DarlaFoxx caters to women of all ages, making it a go-to for special occasions like proms, weddings, and Quinceanera's. This store exemplifies the importance of women in Cleveland's business landscape, offering products that combine elegance with functionality.

Another driving force is In My Bag Collection, founded by Tianna Blackmon. This luxury handbag boutique is making waves with its Italian-manufactured leather goods, offering customers high-quality, authentic pieces with a unique shopping experience. Blackmon, who transitioned from a career as an electrical engineer to entrepreneur, credits her success to her persistence. "I see the potential in Tower City, and I just wanted to be part of that," Blackmon said during an interview.

In the food and dining space, Everybody Eatz is a women-led business that brings comfort and creativity to the table, fostering a sense of community through its innovative approach to dining.

Fashion takes center stage again with Mi’Amour, a boutique founded by former nurse Meih Stevenson. After leaving her nursing career during the pandemic, Stevenson turned her passion for fashion into a business that empowers women through trendy and stylish clothing. Her story reflects the growing trend of women transitioning into entrepreneurship, particularly as they seek more meaningful work after the disruptions caused by COVID-19.

Unscript’d Boutique, started by Mary Williams, adds to the diversity of offerings at Tower City. The boutique specializes in fashionable, plus-size clothing, aiming to provide women of all shapes with stylish and well-fitting options. Williams founded the store after struggling to find such clothing herself, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit that drives many women business owners in Cleveland.

These women-owned businesses not only boost Cleveland's economy but also contribute to the city’s culture of empowerment and inclusion. As American Women’s Business Day draws near, these entrepreneurs remind us of the impact women have in transforming their communities, particularly as the country looks ahead to historic leadership possibilities in the upcoming presidential election.
