Former Ohio Special Education Teacher Releases Second Children's Book Inspired by Nature

KETTERING, OHIO — Former Dayton City Schools special education teacher Jennifer L. Hoffmann has brought her passion for education and storytelling to life with the release of her second children’s book, Gary Sees a Squirrel, now available on Amazon.

The book follows Gary, a curious and adventurous house cat, as he observes the world beyond his favorite perch; the windowsill. Through his journey, young readers learn about the lifecycle of squirrels, including their diet, winter preparations, and how they raise their young. Aimed at children aged 2 to 8, Gary Sees a Squirrel fosters curiosity and compassion while introducing kids to nature.

Jennifer first introduced readers to Gary’s world with Gary Sees a Robin, which encouraged children to explore the outdoors and develop a love for wildlife. Her latest book builds on that foundation, offering another engaging lesson in the wonders of nature.

“Writing these books has been a fun and rewarding experience,” Jennifer said. “It’s been amazing to share Gary’s adventures and to see how they spark curiosity in young readers.”

A resident of Kettering, Ohio, Jennifer drew inspiration from her real-life cat, Gary, who spends hours watching wildlife from the window. By combining her love of animals, education, and storytelling, she hopes to inspire children to develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Gary Sees a Squirrel is now available for purchase on Amazon, making it a valuable addition to family bookshelves and classrooms.
