INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The Independence Police Department recently paid tribute to K9 Argo, who passed away last year, by presenting a commemorative plaque to A. Ripepi and Sons Funeral Home in appreciation of their generous donation of cremation services. The ceremony, led by Sgt. Vitron, was a heartfelt gesture to honor Argo's service and express gratitude for the community’s support.
“K9 Argo was more than just a police dog; he was a beloved member of our community and our department,” the police department stated in a Facebook post. “We deeply appreciate the support from A. Ripepi and Sons Funeral Home.”
K9 Argo, who served alongside his partner and handler, Officer Vitron, was remembered for his loyalty, dedication, and friendly demeanor. A neighbor, Rick Melbar, fondly recalled his first encounter with Argo, sharing on social media, “Argo was such a beautiful and friendly dog. First time I met him I was weeding in the backyard one day, Argo came up behind me and startled me. He had a ball in his mouth, dropped it and wanted me to throw it. I threw it for him. He ran to get it and brought it back. After two times I walked him down to Officer Vitron and introduced myself. Miss seeing him walking in the neighborhood.”
The Independence Police Department announced Argo's passing on January 27, 2024, noting that he was over 10 years old and had formed an unbreakable bond with Officer Vitron. The department acknowledged the impact of his loss on both his human partner and the community he served.
