Lunch, Laughter, and Cleveland History at Corky and Lenny's
Updated: Aug 22, 2023
WOODMERE - Corky and Lenny's is a Cleveland institution that has been serving up traditional Jewish deli fare since 1956. The restaurant was founded by Sanford "Corky" Kurland and Lenny Kaden and opened its doors in Cedar Center, a shopping center in South Euclid, Ohio. The original deli featured great deli meats and traditional Eastern European and American dishes.
In 1973, Corky and Lenny's opened its current location in Woodmere Village, Ohio, with the help of new partner Alex Pearl. The restaurant continued to grow and serve customers both near and far. In 1990, Alex Pearl passed away and Lenny Kaden decided to retire, but Corky's son Kenny and nephew Earl stepped up as new partners after growing up in the business.
Sadly, Corky Kurland passed away in 2011, but his vision and commitment to quality are still evident in every plate of food served and every smile that flashes across diner's faces.
The deli has dedicated staff members who have spent the majority of their careers at Corky and Lenny's, some for over 50 years.
CleveItToUs stopped by Corky and Lenny's to learn about the history of the restaurant from Amanda Kurland, one of the owners. During his visit, Gremi had the opportunity to play the role of a waiter and make food for a special guest at the restaurant - Lori Cahan-Simon, a local Cleveland singer and long-time friend and mentor of Gremi.
Lori graciously agreed to let Gremi take her order, make her food, and join her for lunch while they discussed many fun topics. Schmoozing in its finest form; over great Cleveland food. It was a special moment for both Gremi and Lori to share a meal together at one of Cleveland's most iconic delis.
Corky and Lenny's is more than just a restaurant - it is a Cleveland institution that has been serving up delicious food and warm hospitality for over six decades. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you're sure to feel like family at Corky and Lenny's.
