Medina to Celebrate Paul Revere’s Ride with Lantern Gathering and Historic Reenactments
MEDINA, OH — Medina is set to participate in the nationwide "Two Lights for Tomorrow" initiative on April 18, 2025, commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's historic ride. Residents and visitors are invited to gather at Medina Square at 8:30 p.m. for an evening of historical reflection and community engagement.
The event will feature local historian Eleanor Kristan portraying Sybil Ludington, reciting Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1860 poem, "Paul Revere's Ride." Additionally, Charles Ramer will depict William Dawes, providing insights into the actual events of April 18, 1775. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with a reenactor portraying Paul Revere and capture photos with these historical figures.
In alignment with the "Two Lights for Tomorrow" initiative, Medina residents are encouraged to display two lights in their homes throughout the night of April 18 as a tribute to the signals used during Revere's ride. Furthermore, citizens are urged to engage in community service activities on April 19, supporting local charities and fostering communal spirit. Earlier in the week, beginning April 14, the Medina Library will host a children's craft project, allowing young participants to create lanterns for the upcoming gathering.
"Two Lights for Tomorrow" is a nationwide effort marking the commencement of America's 250th birthday celebrations. The initiative calls for the display of two lights in homes, community centers, and government buildings to symbolize unity and the enduring quest for freedom. The following day is designated for community service, encouraging citizens to contribute positively to their communities.
The Ohio Statehouse, in collaboration with America 250-Ohio, will also participate by illuminating two lights, joining other state capitols in this commemorative act.
As the nation approaches its semiquincentennial, events like these serve to honor the past while inspiring collective action toward a better future.
