Mentor Turns Bad Weather Into Family Fun This Saturday; Don't Miss Out

MENTOR, Ohio — As the winter season continues to grip Northeast Ohio, the city of Mentor is gearing up to host its annual Mentor Chill Out event, bringing a burst of excitement and community spirit to the area. Scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Mentor Civic Center Park is set to transform into a winter wonderland, offering a day filled with fun, food, and festive activities for all ages.

The Chill Out event has quickly become a beloved tradition in Mentor, known for its unique blend of winter-themed activities and family-friendly fun. This year, the event promises over 10 stunning ice sculptures scattered throughout the grounds, with live ice carving shows and a thrilling speed carving competition by artists from Elegant Ice Creations set to captivate attendees.

In a playful twist, the event will kick off with the inaugural Chill Out .5k (you read that right) Donut Race, a whimsical challenge where participants must finish a donut and hot chocolate before crossing the finish line. This lighthearted race underscores the event's focus on fun and community engagement, with all participants receiving a medal and encouraged to pre-register.

Children and families can look forward to a plethora of hands-on activities. An outdoor ice rink, a kids' craft tent, outdoor games, sled riding, and an ice slide are just a few of the attractions available, weather permitting. For those who love winter sports, sledding and snowshoeing opportunities will also be available, adding to the day's excitement.

Food enthusiasts are in for a treat with the Chili Cook-Off and an array of gourmet fare from popular local food trucks such as Delish Mobile Kitchen, Scotts Fire and Ice Pizza, and A&M’s Donut Wagon. These culinary delights promise to satisfy all palates, ensuring no one leaves hungry.

Adults can enjoy the whiskey tent, featuring a flight of assorted shots from Red Eagle Distillery, including the signature Hot Apple Cider with Red Maple Rum. For those who prefer beer, options like Michelob Ultra and Alaskan Brewing Company's Chillin Cold IPA will be available. Not to be left out, children can enjoy delicious hot chocolate.

The day's festivities will culminate in a spectacular fireworks show at 5:45 PM, ensuring the event ends on a high note. The Mentor Chill Out is more than just a celebration; it's proof that even in the coldest months, warmth and joy can be found in coming together.

The event is set to take place snow or shine, with admission and most activities being free of charge. Mentor Civic Center Park, located at 8600 Munson Road, will serve as the venue for this memorable day. For more information and to partake in this winter celebration, visit www.mentorchillout.com.
