Northeast Ohio Police to Share Crime Prevention Strategies at Euclid Event
EUCLID, Ohio — A consortium of law enforcement agencies and private businesses announced the Northeast Ohio Police Crime Prevention Mini-Conference scheduled for Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Lincoln Electric Welding Technology & Training Center, located at 22800 St. Clair Avenue in Euclid.
The conference is designed to provide the community with valuable insights and practical knowledge on various aspects of crime prevention. It will feature a series of Listen & Learn Breakout Sessions, including:
Internet Theft & Fraud: The Willoughby Hills Police Department will discuss the latest techniques and strategies to protect against online theft and fraud.
ODOT: Stay Aware, Alert & Alive: The Ohio Department of Transportation will offer essential tips and advice on staying safe and alert while driving.
SCAMO Fraud Awareness Game: The Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs Scam Squad will conduct an interactive game to educate participants on recognizing and preventing fraud.
Hands-on Martial Arts Demonstration: Kang Do Won Martial Arts Institute will present a practical session on self-defense techniques.
Community Response Unit Firearm Seizures: Euclid Police Officers will discuss the CRU’s procedures for firearm and narcotics seizures and efforts to maintain community safety.
Reducing Violent Crime at Liquor Permit Premises: The Ohio Investigative Unit will share strategies and best practices for reducing violent crime in locations with liquor permits.
From Report to Resolution: The Steps to Felony Prosecution: A Cuyahoga County Prosecutor will explain the felony prosecution process from the initial police report to trial, including considerations for plea deals and victims’ rights.
Youth Law Enforcement Career Exploration: The Willoughby Police Department will provide insights and guidance for young individuals interested in law enforcement careers.
Kate McLaughlin, Euclid Community Policing Specialist, emphasized the importance of community involvement in crime prevention. "This mini-conference event was inspired by Euclid community members who want to work with police to prevent crime and make our neighborhoods safer," she said. "I believe most people feel the same, so the event has grown to include surrounding communities and participation by Richmond Heights Police, South Euclid Police, Willowick Police, Willoughby Hills Police, Willoughby Police, Mentor Police, Kirtland Police, as well as several other law enforcement agencies and different businesses that promote safety and crime prevention."
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with various law enforcement and business professionals, including representatives from the BCI Crime Scene Unit, Cleveland Metroparks, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Cleveland FBI, Cleveland Clinic Police, and more. The event will also feature exhibits such as the Cleveland Mounted Police, BCI Crime Lab truck, ODOT plow truck, EDGE/SWAT drone and robot, and a children’s hands-on activity by Home Depot. Lunch will be available for purchase from Carhops Diner Dogs Food Truck.
The Northeast Ohio Police Crime Prevention Mini-Conference encourages all community members to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn and engage with local law enforcement and business professionals dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
