PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A tragic shooting unfolded in Painesville early Sunday, leaving a 67-year-old man dead and his son charged with murder. Painesville police responded to a call at approximately 12:53 a.m. on September 15, arriving at a residence in the 300 block of Sanford Street, where they discovered the victim had been fatally shot inside the home.

Authorities quickly detained the victim’s son, 23-year-old Christopher Paul Farmer, at the scene. Farmer was taken into custody and transported to the Painesville Police Department for questioning. Following his interview, Farmer was formally charged with murder.

The Painesville City Fire Department, the Lake County Coroner, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were all called to the scene to assist with processing evidence. The suspect was transferred to the Lake County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. His arraignment took place on Monday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. in Painesville Municipal Court, during which Farmer pled not guilty.

Painesville Police Chief Daniel Waterman addressed the gravity of the situation, saying, "This is a deeply tragic incident for the family and the community. We are conducting a thorough investigation and seeking justice for the victim."

Farmer’s next court appearance is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Monday, September 23, at 9:30 a.m. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the Painesville Police Department at 440-392-5840.
