Road Rage Leads To Shots Fired in Painesville
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OHIO - The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots being fired during a road rage incident in Painesville Township and Concord Township on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The incident occurred at approximately 11:51 a.m. near Cherry Tree Lane in Painesville Township.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a 33-year-old resident of Painesville Township reported being followed by another vehicle. The victim stated that the person following them fired multiple rounds at their vehicle while traveling south on Chestnut Street, near Johnnycake Ridge Rd. (Route 84) in Concord Township.
In response, the victim exited their vehicle and pointed their own firearm at the person pursuing them as the vehicle approached. The victim claimed that the suspect was holding a firearm, leading them to fire two shots in the direction of the suspect's vehicle in self-defense. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau took over the investigation and identified a suspect within hours. Search warrants were obtained for the suspect's home and vehicle. The case is still under investigation, and charges are expected to be filed soon.
